A good number of people usually relate the eating disorder with the people that are too thin and would do anything to stay that way. There however is so much more to the disorders and so many types, with some only affecting their behavior with food and some the obsessive thinness drive. Feeding disorder and eating disorder are different in terms of the cause and treatment and in general, the feeding disorders starts earlier in life of childhood than the eating disorders.

The Pica eating disorder, mainly characterized by the eating of the non-food substances or the non-nutritive ones is a good place to start. The person is capable of eating other foods outside the behavior, last at least a month and is severe to need medical attention and is common among people with other development or psychological disorder. The rumination eating disorder, usually characterized by the regurgitation of partially digested food that is either spit out, re-swallowed or re-chewed that last for more than a month and can start at any life stage is the next one here. Many patients will avoid eating in public to avoid this behavior, lose weight for the same and when the medical conditions like the pyloric stenosis and the GERD are ruled it then they may be having this disorder. Behavioral therapy is one of the very common treatment options.

When the person avoids foods or some of the foods then they may be having Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). This is due to the fear of the food itself and other things like the allergy and not the weight gain, and for this they may lose weight, have improper growth and nutritional deficiency. When they have definite caloric intake restriction on the other hand for the fear of weight gain then they are said to have the Anorexia Nervosa. The person will have a distorted sense of how they look and the wright too, intense fear of weight gain, restricted caloric intake or purging and binge eating and may also be obsessed with the cooking and recipes even though they will not eat. Bulimia Nervosa is another eating disorder that is often characterized by the binge eating episodes or large food quantities consumptions at a go, and recurrent compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain. This is one of the disorders that can go for a really long time without treatment because the individuals hide it and usually have normal weight.
